rumbal whitings

rumbal whitings
an old tradition at Folkestone where eight of the largest and best whitings were chosen out of every boat and sold separately. The money from this sale funded a Christmas feast, called a rumbal, for each boat crew. May originally have been an offering for St. Rumwold, to whom a chapel was dedicated near Folkestone
